NCCU’S SCHOOL OF
BUSINESS RECEIVES ACCREDITATION FROM AACSB
DURHAM, N.C. * North
Carolina Central University (NCCU) has achieved accreditation of its
bachelor's and master's programs in business administration by recent
action of the Board of Directors of AACSB International * the
Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of
Business. The
official announcement was made today in Tampa, Florida.
“We are proud of the
leadership from the faculty and staff of our School of Business,” said
Chancellor James H. Ammons. “This accreditation validates what I have
known for quite some time, that we have an outstanding program and a
committed and caring faculty.”
To achieve
accreditation, business programs must satisfy the expectations of a
wide range of quality standards relating to strategic management of
resources, interaction of faculty and
students in the
educational process, and achievement of learning goals in degree
programs. These standards are mission-linked.
“AACSB warmly
congratulates the North Carolina Central University and Interim Dean
Bijoy K. Sahoo for earning the highest achievement in business school
accreditation,” said John J. Fernandes, president and chief executive
officer of AACSB International. “We also commend
the school’s faculty,
directors, and administrative staff for their dedication and
commitment to continuous improvement that played an important role in
helping their institution earn initial
accreditation.”
During the
accreditation process, NCCU was visited and evaluated by business
school deans, accounting educators and corporate representatives with
detailed knowledge of management education, applying accreditation
standards that are widely accepted in the
educational
community.
“Validation of our
academic endeavors through accreditation by AACSB International is
affirming and gratifying,” said Provost Beverly Washington Jones.
“With this stellar achievement, the university joins over 500 member
institutions which hold the esteemed
accreditation. The
reputable work of the faculty, staff, and students of the School of
Business led by Interim Dean Bijoy Sahoo is immeasurable and
meritorious. The university community joins me in saluting their
impressive efforts. We look forward to continued
growth and
improvement.”
The School of
Business first applied for accreditation with the AACSB in 1999-2000.
This is the second association to provide accreditation to the School
of Business this year. In March 2006, the NCCU School of Business was
notified that it was accredited by the ACBSP (Association of
Collegiate Business Schools and Programs).
“Accreditation is and
remains a faculty driven process,” said Bijoy Sahoo, interim dean of
the School of Business. “The faculty, staff and students have come
together and have demonstrated incredible teamwork to gain affirmation
from our peers and the AACSB * International. I am personally
grateful for this opportunity to serve NCCU and its School of
Business.”
NCCU School of
Business has been in existence since 1972, when it was separated from
the Undergraduate School of Arts and Sciences. The school has more
than 1,025 enrolled at the undergraduate level and 80 students in its
graduate program.
“This is a momentous
occasion and a wonderful benchmark for the School of Business,” said
Dr. Youngil Cho, associate dean of Academics, NCCU’s School of
Business. “Dean Sahoo has lead this effort and has guided us all in
this process that is a reflection of the diligence and commitment of
our students, faculty and staff.”
