DURHAM - The Campus Echo, was honored
with 15 awards at the 10th annual Historic Black College and
University Newspaper and Media Conference held at Morgan State
University in Baltimore from February 13 - 17, 2008 .
The newspaper, advised by NCCU faculty member Bruce dePyssler,
took home five first place prizes, including Best Overall
Non-Weekly Newspaper, Best Features Arts and Entertainment
Section, Best Overall Sports Coverage, Best Sports Game Coverage
and Best Sports Feature.
The Echo also received a third place prize for Best Individual
Page Design for its coverage honoring slain Echo staff member and
NCCU graduate student Denita Smith.
The newspaper was judged on stories printed between Jan. 1 and
Dec. 31, 2007, when the paper was edited by students Rony Camille
and Shelbia Brown.
