Bouna Ndiaye in the WNCU Studio

DURHAM, NC: - Bouna Ndiaye is a native of Senegal, Africa.  He is a 1986 graduate of NCCU with a degree in Accounting.  While at NCCU he lived with Dr. and Mrs. John Hope Franklin and they adopted him as their Foster Son.

Bouna earned a master's degree from the International University of Japan.  After graduation he worked in Japan and then returned to his native Senegal.  In 1997, he decide to come back to the United States. In the US, he worked at NCCU as an auditor.  While at NCCU he discovered a new Jazz Radio Station called WNCU.  Since the station did not have any African Music Programs, he volunteered to become the DJ for an Africa Music Show called Bon Jour Africa

His radio show not only plays music from West Africa, but it plays songs from the entire African continent.  Bouna also tries to provide the historical context for the music he plays.  He believes it is important for his listening audience to know the artist’s connect to the social and cultural history of their native country.  Bon Jour Africa airs every Sunday from 4 pm – 6 pm on WNCU

Bouna is employed at Duke University as a Professor for African Film, Music and Language.  While at Duke he became concerned about the problems of malaria in his native country and started a non profit organization to address this problem.  This organization is the Bon Jour Africa Malaria Project and its purpose is to raise funds for medicine and malaria nets for the woman and children of his native Senegal.
