DURHAM, NC —The Durham School Board named Kecia L. Rogers as the Principal of W.G. Pearson Elementary Magnet School on May 28, 2009 for the upcoming school year.
“Kecia Rogers is a seasoned educator with both classroom and school administration experience,” said Superintendent Carl Harris. “I am convinced that the enthusiasm, energy and support for innovation she brings with her will serve the Pearson students, teachers, staff and parents very well.”
The newly promoted administrator, a Durham native is a graduate of Durham High School in 1990 and graduated from N.C. Central University in 1994. She also holds two master’s degrees – one in elementary education (1998) and one in school administration (2007) – from North Carolina Central University
Rogers was the Assistant Principal at Carrington Middle School for the past two years. Before that, she taught at Southwest Elementary School for 11 years.
Rogers thanked God, her Husband and two Children, her Mother and her Grandmother, who attended Pearson years ago, along with other Relatives and Supporters.
Upon acceptance of her new Position, Rogers told the Board that "It is my overwhelming gratitude and balanced appreciation for what was given to me that compels me to give back to a community and a School District that has given me so much,". "I am truly excited about joining the W.G. Pearson family and building upon the successes of the past while striving for excellence for every learner today and into the future.
